Remember when the third generation Toyota Vellfire and Alphard were released and everyone ridiculed Toyota for making them even more hideous than they were previously?
Toyota Alphard and Vellfire, 3rd Gen

Well, it could have been much more tragic if this 2015 Tokyo Auto Show Toyota Alphard Hercule Concept was any indication.
I know I’ve been looking for a luxury van with a gigantic cowcatcher and backwards roof spoiler all my life /s
It also comes with a landaulet roof and body sculpting to rival that on the last gen Mazda 5
Third row seats that resemble a jacuzzi and come with champagne flutes are complimentary and teak flooring is always a plus
Beige wood, white leather, and navy blue leather! What an amazing color combination! /s

Personally, if I wanted an ultra-luxe Toyota concept van (and had a complete disregard for the safety of my chauffeur’s knees) I would go with this HiAce Platinum Lounge, also from the 2015 Tokyo Show.
Such a classy grille
Who knew a humble HiAce could look so good?
Infinitely classier than the weird Alphard IMO, and look at that cursive logo!
No cockpit pictures from Paultan.org, but how about this stylish shot instead?

If ultra-luxury isn’t your thing when it comes to vans, how about the Tokyo 2015 Noah Active Cross Concept? Looks ready to tackle any gravel or dirt road you can throw at it!
Side molding looking similar to the C4 Cactus
Overall, it looks like a combination of Cactus and Honda Element
Active Cross!
A white interior in a ‘lifestyle’ vehicle is not going to get dirty at all! /s
So what do you think of these three wacky Tokyo Auto Show Toyota Concept Vans from 2015? Which would be your pick?

The HiAce. No doubt. Looks way classier and looks so fancy on the inside.

Weird how they’re clearly capable of creating a fantastic van, since the HiAce looks excellent. Then someone decided that Alphard should happen....*shudder*

I want that HiAce badly.
It’s like someone took a Maybach, and made it into a van.

Perhaps they’re only capable of making a handsome cabover van? Because none of their front-engined JDM vans in the recent past have been particularly aesthetically pleasing...obviously there’s the egregiously bad Alphard and Vellfire, but there’s also:
The new Esquire...

The new Noah...

The new Voxy...
All the same basic car underneath, all equally boxy and nasty. Honda shows that a box doesn’t have to be ugly with the new Stepwgn:
Must be those damned Lexus designers.

Hard to believe it’s just this underneath all the fancy makeup:
Shows what an awesomely versatile platform the HiAce is.

Reliable too, because Toyota. The last thing to do would be to swap the Century GZ-FE V12 into there. It would be tight, but I’m sure we can do some finagling.

If I could buy one, and needed a van, this is what I’d get. A while back, I was going to dinner with the family and all the sudden just yelled “catch up to that van I want to look at the plates because I’m pretty sure those are dignitary plates because thats a HiAce.”
They were Mexican plates. Yesmy family thinks im crazy because i lost my mind over a van.

They’re all doing Lexus-y ridiculous grille designs. Though I’m not a fan of that Honda either. When it comes to non-cabover designs, I think I prefer the Elgrand. Still has an overbearing grille, but I feel like the design works better

Ok, I do concede that the Honda has nothing on the amazing Elgrand. Worse yet, the new International Odyssey is simply atrocious:
I personally preferred the pre-facelift Elgrand because its lines were more elegant, but it’s really nit-picking compared to the Toyota twins:
The littler Serena fares no better than the Stepwgn and Noah/Voxy/Esquire, though, because of its rectangular nature:
I do like the Toyota Estima (despite the fact that it’s ten years old now). It’s rounded lines are much more attractive IMO.

Haha, same thing happened to be with a Mitsubishi L200 Triton in Las Vegas!
Indeed, you can do anything with a Hiace!

I likewise prefer the pre-facelift Elgrand, I just thought I should compare the 2015 model with the other 2o15 models. Oh wow you’re right. I had no idea the Estima was still being sold, that is quite long in the tooth.

Vans are like boats in Japan.
Here though we need SUVs with less space, and less style.
